Martin Thomas has been a solicitor for more than 25 years, having qualified in 1990.
He has worked in law firms, in the private sector, in the public sector and in the third sector. He has been chairman of a FTSE 250 insurance company. He has negotiated a treaty on behalf of the EU. He was chairman of the largest crop production company in the world. He has served as chair of 10 charities and was chairman of NHS Resolution, the largest legal dispute resolution organisation in the country. He was the founding secretary of the Financial Markets Law Committee and served as a senior official of the Bank of England and of the European Central Bank.
Martin is closely involved in local matters. He convened Tisbury’s public debate on Brexit (‘Tis The Question), founded Tisbury’s mobile green refill food shop (‘Tis The Future), converted local phone boxes into Tisbury’s Community Poetry Libraries, and created the Old Wardour Castle Disabled Access Community Lakeside Pathway.
He and his wife Miranda live in Wardour, near Tisbury, where they have raised five children.
